Vivian, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Kiswahili and History, had reportedly been unwell in the days leading up to her death and was staying alone, with no one present to look after her.
The incident came to light after her mother, who had spoken to her by phone the day before, grew increasingly worried when her calls stopped being picked up. She reached out to contacts in Meru to help locate her daughter.
Where was Vivian found?
The landlord and a number of fellow students responded and went to Neema Apartments to check on her.
When they arrived, they noticed the window was open and the lights were still on, but the door was locked from the inside.
After their attempts to rouse her proved futile, they forced the door open and found Vivian unresponsive inside.
Medication found in Vivian's room
Medication was found on a table in the room. The exact circumstances surrounding her death remained unclear at the time of reporting, and police launched investigations to determine the cause.
The loss has been deeply felt across the Meru University community, with fellow students expressing grief and mourning one of their own.
Vivian's passing has also reignited conversations among students about the importance of welfare check-ins, particularly for those living alone off campus.
