Guwahati, Oct 17: Authorities in Assam conducted eviction drives across three districts on Saturday to clear encroachments from reserved forest land, reclaiming more than 300 hectares. The operations, carried out in Golaghat, Nagaon, and Hojai districts, affected over 500 families, officials confirmed.
Excavators were deployed to demolish structures, though most residents had already vacated the areas with their belongings after receiving prior notices from the administration. Officials stated that the exercise proceeded smoothly, with no untoward incidents reported during the day-long operation.
The eviction drive marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to protect forest reserves from illegal occupation and restore ecological balance in the region.
