The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) has launched a mobile application called UmiRedi, which it said will help Solomon Islanders get ready for disasters and reach climate information more easily.
The launch was held at the Heritage Park Hotel on 12 October 2026. The application is available on Google Play, and the ministry said it is meant to serve as a national one-stop platform holding climate information, disaster alerts and early warnings, along with preparedness resources and recovery reporting.
Minister for Environment Wayne Osopo Ghemu told the launch the application was part of wider efforts to build a safer and more digitally connected country. "Today, we are not simply launching a digital platform. We are launching a national commitment to preparedness," Mr Ghemu said.
The minister said UmiRedi would put climate and disaster information in one place for communities, schools, government agencies and emergency responders, and that it would improve coordination and decision-making while giving people information from a trusted source.
Mr Ghemu also urged citizens, churches, schools, businesses and community and government bodies to take up the application and build it into their preparedness work. The ministry said the public should download UmiRedi from Google Play.
