Thoubal, Oct 19: One person was killed and several others injured in clashes between two communities in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Sunday night, prompting authorities to impose prohibitory orders in the affected areas.
Police said the violence began after a group allegedly pelted stones towards a ground hosting a concert in Khangabok village, around 25 km south of Imphal. The incident escalated into stone-throwing between members of the two communities in Khangabok and neighbouring Sangaiyumpham.
The deceased sustained a gunshot wound, while several others were injured in the violence. A few houses and vehicles were also set ablaze in the affected areas.
Following the clashes, district authorities imposed prohibitory orders in Khangabok and Sangaiyumpham, directing residents to remain indoors and restricting movement to prevent further escalation.
Additional security forces have been deployed in the affected areas to bring the situation under control and prevent further violence. Security personnel are conducting patrols and area domination operations, while authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
The incident comes amid continuing tensions in the state, with security agencies working to maintain order and prevent further clashes. Further details regarding the circumstances of the violence and the injuries were awaited.
