Pakistan is planning to introduce a national e-sports policy, which will bring competitive gaming into Pakistan’s formal sports system, creating more opportunities for young people to participate in e-sports.
The new e-sports policy also plans to establish a dedicated federation and organize its first National E-Sports Championship as part of efforts to promote competitive gaming among young people.
The plans were outlined in a written reply submitted by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination in response to a question from MNA Muhammad Farooq Sattar. The Prime Minister has formed a Task Force on E-Sports, headed by the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.
The Ministry of Information Technology has officially notified the task force, which includes representatives from public and private sector organizations.
The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is supporting the task force in carrying out its responsibilities. It has also helped organize e-sports events at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad, using the country’s existing sports facilities to promote digital sports.
20 Gaming Systems Provided to Schools
Separately, the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, through the PSB, has provided 20 e-gaming systems to five public schools in Islamabad at a cost of Rs 9.10 million.
The initiative aims to introduce students to e-sports and encourage greater participation in competitive gaming.
The planned policy, federation, and national championship are expected to provide a more organized structure for developing e-sports in Pakistan.
