TL;DR
- Google is working to add a layer switcher to in-app live location previews in Google Messages.
- If and when it rolls out, users will be able to toggle between “Default,” “Satellite,” and “Terrain” map types, as well as a real-time traffic overlay.
- The upgrade would make location sharing self-contained, helping users pinpoint landmarks and spot delays without leaving their chat.
Google Messages is testing a handy upgrade to real-time location sharing that lets users switch map styles and check live traffic conditions right in their chats. Google has been working on a couple of interface tweaks recently, including a broad UI refresh across the Messages app, but this upcoming change directly targets functionality rather than adding mere cosmetic polish.
