The trailer for Fox’s reboot of popular television series Baywatch dropped on Tuesday, and like the original show the new version has a lot of sex, sand and slow-motion running to offer.
Actor Stephen Amell leads the new series as Hobie Buchannon, the grown-up version of the character from the original 1990s show. The three-minute trailer opens with Hobie leading a rescue mission after a plane collides with a parasail.
The series follows Hobie, now a Baywatch captain, as he carries forward the legacy of his father, Mitch Buchannon. His life takes an unexpected turn with the arrival of Charlie (Jessica Belkin), the daughter he never knew he had.
Charlie, eager to continue the family tradition, sets out to become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her father.
Fox picked up the reboot for the 2026-27 broadcast season in September 2025, ordering 12 episodes. The production held an open casting call in early 2026 and began filming in Los Angeles in the spring.
The ensemble cast includes Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone, alongside Amell and Belkin. Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda and Charlie McElveen will appear in recurring roles. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion will also feature in the series, as indicated in the trailer.
The original Baywatch premiered in 1989 and became one of the world's most widely watched television shows, airing in more than 200 countries at its peak. The series starred David Hasselhoff as head lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and helped launch the acting careers of Pamela Anderson, Jason Momoa, Yasmine Bleeth and Carmen Electra.
The franchise also spawned the spin-off Baywatch Nights and a 2017 feature film starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
Matt Nix serves as showrunner and executive producer on the reboot, alongside McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. McG has also directed the premiere episode.
The series, co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, debuts in January 2027.
