The Edo state government has announced traffic diversion and temporary road closures in Benin City ahead of the visit of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
In a statement, the Managing Director of the Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA), Engr. Stainless Ijeghede, said the restrictions would run from 6am to 6pm.
The affected routes according to the statement are: Joromi Junction by Ekenwan Road and the Stadium Road junction with Ekenwan Road. Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes.
The agency urged residents to plan their journeys early and cooperate with traffic officials.
The first lady is expected to commission the State’s new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and empower 5,000 women under her Renewed Hope Initiative during the visit.
Meanwhile, renovation and beautification works have intensified around Ring Road, Airport Road and other major corridors leading to the event venues.
The activities, alongside preparations for the visit, have contributed to traffic congestion in parts of the city, with residents and motorists lamenting delays, particularly during peak hours.
