The Ministry of Local Government has decided to form 20 special monitoring committees across Dhaka North and South city corporations to ensure visible progress in dengue prevention, cleanliness drives, canal demarcation and re-excavation, and tree plantation, in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.
Ten committees will operate in each city corporation, covering areas under the respective regional executive officers’ offices. Director-level officials from the Prime Minister’s Office will head the zonal committees.
Representatives from the Local Government Division, Health Services Division, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Dhaka WASA, metropolitan police, and the engineering, waste management, medical and law enforcement wings of the two city corporations will serve on the committees. Executive magistrates will also be attached to them.
The decisions were taken at a review meeting held at the Local Government Division’s conference room on 18 October to assess progress in dengue prevention, cleanliness drives, canal demarcation and re-excavation, and tree plantation across Dhaka.
Mir Shahe Alam, state minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, chaired the meeting, while Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, state minister for Housing and Public Works, attended as a special guest.
A high-level monitoring committee will also be formed, with the state minister for Housing and Public Works as its convener, to oversee, guide and coordinate the activities of the 20 zonal committees.
The committee will include representatives from the Local Government Division, additional secretary-level officials from the city corporations, and senior officials from Dhaka WASA, the Health Services Division and the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
The zonal committees will conduct field-level cleanliness drives, intensify canal demarcation and excavation, and take effective measures to control mosquitoes and ensure the implementation of necessary actions.
Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division Md Shahidul Hasan and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Dhaka WASA, and Dhaka North and South city corporations attended the meeting.
