The Kansas City Chiefs return to action this weekend following their early Bye Week as their AFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, await them at Arrowhead Stadium.
Victory against the Las Vegas Raiders secured the Chiefs their unbeaten title last time out but it did not come without its challenges. The Raiders have looked much improved under Klint Kubiak and they certainly forced the Chiefs into earning every single point at Allegiant Stadium.
The victory in Vegas even saw a heated exchange between Patrick Mahomes and his offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Despite the quarterback throwing for two touchdowns, the pressure during the game saw tempers fly on the sideline.
However, ahead of the game on Sunday against the Chargers, Bieniemy was quick to play down Mahomes’ frustrations shared during the game two weeks ago.

The Chiefs have shown clear signs of getting back to the high standards they have set for themselves over the best part of the last decade. Those levels do not come from the likes of Mahomes settling for anything other than the absolute best and that was seen out there at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas.
“Here’s the thing, okay? Because I’m the one doing all the b* and complaining for the most part. Okay? But I have no problems with guys venting their frustrations because I want them to. That’s a part of the dynamics of the relationships that we have,” said Bieniemy on Thursday.
“Sometimes you’re going to agree with things, sometimes you’re going to disagree with things. But if there’s something that’s taking place out on the field, they may have a better point of view than what we do from off the field. And so I want them to feel comfortable coming to share that stuff with me. So there is no issues of communications.”
Getting Mahomes back to his absolute best was the key factor for Andy Reid and Bieniemy heading into 2026 following his season-ending injury last year. The Chiefs’ quarterback has pushed himself during the offseason to return to this standard and he is holding everyone else accountable on the sideline.
This is exactly what the Chiefs need if they are going to get back to another Super Bowl and Mahomes is certainly earning his league-leading salary by offering a lot more than just his brilliance on the field.
