NFL and San Francisco 49ers legend Steve Young had himself a weekend… while his former employer took some insane blasts online for something they did three years ago.
Young, who was let go from ESPN a few years back as a commentator, appeared on “College GameDay” on Saturday and accurately predicted all 10 of his college picks.
All. Dang. 10.
Now, fans have been trolling his former employer for allowing him to slip away. Or, rather, yeeting him off a cliff themselves.
“ESPN gonna learn just like the (Tampa Bay) Buccaneers learned, YOU DON’T CUT STEVE YOUNG,” one person posted on X.
“ESPN only cuts people who are talented,” another pointed out on the social media site.
“Give me Steve Young over Stephen A. (Smith) or (Pat) McAfee any day,” another yelled into the void.
“He was one of the best analysts on TV,” someone noted. “ESPN letting him go was stupid!”
“This is hilarious because ESPN fired Steve and tons of other knowledgeable folks in favor of loud mouth, dumb dumbs and coaches whose cheating ruined college football as we know it. Nice self own,” someone said.
“Maybe ESPN should’ve kept him as an analyst instead of some of the nonsensical people they continue to put on during the week,” another pointed out.

In 2023, Young was one of the massive layoff casualties the network hammered down in order to prevent further reductions to off-air staff after two rounds of mandated cuts by its parent company, the Walt Disney Company, CBS News reported.
“Given the current environment, ESPN has determined it necessary to identify some additional cost savings in the area of public-facing commentator salaries, and that process has begun,” ESPN said in a statement when the network announced the layoffs.
“This is an extremely challenging process involving individuals who have had tremendous impact on our company. These difficult decisions, based more on overall efficiency than merit, will help us meet our financial targets and ensure future growth.”
