Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at Zardari House on Thursday. During the meeting, Kundi briefed Bilawal on a tragic school incident in Peshawar. The governor said the incident claimed the lives of 33 students and two teachers. Authorities have detained the school owner for preliminary questioning.

Kundi said he had formed an inquiry committee to investigate the incident and identify those responsible. The committee was expected to submit its report the following morning. He also announced financial assistance of Rs1 million for each bereaved family and Rs300,000 for every injured person. The governor said he had visited the site and offered condolences to the victims’ families after their funeral prayers.
Bilawal expressed sorrow over the tragedy and called for effective measures to prevent similar incidents. The meeting also covered efforts to address terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Kundi briefed the PPP chairman on initiatives aimed at supporting police personnel who work on the front lines against militant threats.
According to Kundi, the provincial authorities have increased police salaries and distributed plots among the families of police officers killed in the line of duty. The government has also raised financial assistance for police officers injured while performing their duties from Rs100,000 to Rs1.5 million. Compensation for officers who suffer permanent disabilities during encounters with militants has increased from Rs500,000 to Rs5 million.

Bilawal praised the measures aimed at improving the welfare of police personnel and their families. He said lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was essential for the province’s prosperity and development. The meeting highlighted both the immediate response to the school tragedy and the wider challenges of public safety, police support and counterterrorism in the province.
