Jaden McDaniels is now signed with Minnesota through the 2029-30 campaign.
The wing agreed to a one-year, $40 million extension with the Timberwolves on Monday, a source confirmed. McDaniels still had three years remaining on his current deal, making him the first player in NBA history to get an extension with that much time left on a non-max deal, per HoopsHype insider Michael Scotto.
That $40 million salary is projected to be roughly 21% of the salary cap for the 2029-30 season, which is akin to approximately Rudy Gobert’s salary cap percentage this season.
McDaniels will now be eligible to sign a three-year, $180 million max deal in 2028, should both sides agree to such a contract.
So the extension sets McDaniels up to make more money on future deals, while Minnesota gets another year locked in for its two-way wing on what could be a relatively team-friendly contract when the time comes.
McDaniels averaged 14.8 points last season while shooting 51% from the floor and 41% from distance. He’s an All-NBA Defense caliber stopper who’s long been Minnesota’s perimeter lockdown guy.
“I love Jaden,” new Wolves point guard LaMelo Ball said Monday. “I mean, 6-10, can move, long, play defense, cut backdoor, shoot the three. I mean, really anything you need. It’s like a damn near 2K player. It’s crazy.”
