The Kansas City Chiefs are having a great start to the 2026 NFL season. The franchise has won all five of its game so far, and still remains unbeaten in the league. Their dominant performances make them a serious contender for the Super Bowl this season.
Despite their good start to the season, the franchise has been facing problems. One analyst has suggested a trade idea that could bolster the franchise’s offense.
ESPN’s trade idea proposes Chiefs getting TE
The Chiefs have been playing quite well, but their offense still has some problems. Both wide receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton have sustained injuries, with the latter out until the end of the year. Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy are trying their best, but the franchise may have to add another offensive option. While there have been rumors about adding another wide receiver to the roster, there are other offensive choices.
ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell recently made a report for every team that explored potential additions before the midseason trade deadline. He suggested the Chiefs should attempt to trade for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. The analyst has proposed that the Chief receive the tight end to pair with Kelce, while the Eagles will get a 2027 fifth-round pick in return.
Goedert has been quite useful for the Eagles in recent times. He had 11 touchdown receptions last season, being a valuable option for Jalen Hurts. In the 4 games he has played this season, he has 17 receptions for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. While he is not a great player, he can be a reliable option and pair up perfectly with Kelce in different tight end sets.
Barnwell also points out that Goedert will only need to be paid around $870,000 for the rest of the season. This makes sure that the Chiefs can comfortably add him to their team without any heavy financial commitments. As he will become a free agent in 2027, the Eagles will be incentivized to let go of him for a valuable trade pick. He is already expected to be replaced by rookie Eli Stowers sometime in the future.
The Chiefs could look at Goedert as either a short-term option to add another pass option to quarterback Patrick Mahomes this season, or as a future option to replace Kelce. The trade proposal is purely hypothetical, and no talks have been reported. The Chiefs are actively looking to add another wide receiver, such as free agent Tyreek Hill, though the Los Angeles Rams also want him.
It remains to be seen what happens and whether the Kansas City Chiefs will make the trade.
