Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese is on a fast track to win WNBA Finals MVP based on her performances through the first three games of their series against the Golden State Valkyries.
Reese put up 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 97-71 Game 3 win for the Dream, giving Atlanta a 2-1 series lead in the 2026 WNBA Finals against the vaunted Valkyries.
This was Reese’s third straight double-double in the series, a feat that meant she set several new WNBA records with her stat line.
Angel Reese’s double-doubles make WNBA history amid Finals series
Reese dropped 14 points and 12 rebounds in Game 1 before putting up 30 points and 16 rebounds in Game 2.
Her 21 points and 12 rebounds in Game 3 mean she is the first player in league history to drop three consecutive triple-doubles in her first three games in the Finals.
She also became the youngest player in league history to drop three consecutive triple-doubles in the Finals, breaking A’ja Wilson’s record.
Reese is averaging 21.7 points, 13.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals during this series, leading both teams in scoring as well as rebounding.
Her status as the Defensive Player of the Year is also shining through as she is locking down the Valkyries as arguably the best defensive player in this series.
While Reese has reliable production from guards like Alisha Grey and Rhyne Howard, it cannot be disputed that Reese is the head of the snake and leading this Dream squad to a strong start.
While the Dream still need to win two more games to become champions and for Reese to achieve her dream of winning Finals MVP, they are currently on pace to achieve that goal primarily because of Reese’s historic production to start the series.
