The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is targeting victory in 95 per cent of polling units in Ebonyi state in the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru would secure second terms.
Umahi, who is the Deputy Director-General in charge of Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitization of the Tinubu/APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, stated this on Sunday in Abakaliki during the South-East sensitisation campaign for Ebonyi North and Central senatorial zones.
He declared Ebonyi an APC stronghold and called on party stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation, insisting that the party would adopt a more strategic approach to securing votes in the state.
“President Bola Tinubu is going to win a second tenure. Governor Francis Nwifuru is going to win a second tenure,” he said, adding that the party would intensify its campaign to educate voters on the achievements of both administrations.
“The style of our campaign this time is going to be very dynamic. We will knock on the doors of our fathers and mothers at 6am and deliver our campaign messages to them,” the minister said.
Umahi, a former governor and deputy governor of Ebonyi state, said the APC had wealthy supporters, youths, women and elders who were prepared to contribute resources towards the party’s campaign.
He dismissed claims by unnamed political opponents that the APC could lose the state, describing such expectations as unrealistic, while urging party members to remain united and committed to the campaign.
“We are not looking for 80 per cent win; we are looking to win 95 per cent of our polling units, and we will go for it. We will campaign for it and educate our people for it,” he said.
The minister also urged Ebonyi residents to support Tinubu, citing federal infrastructure projects in the state as evidence of the benefits of the President’s administration.
He listed projects linking Ndibe Beach, Onueke, Ukwuachi and Ishieke, as well as routes connecting Ebonyi with neighbouring states, including Benue and Enugu.
He also highlighted the ongoing efforts to complete the Oferekpe road and bridge, saying the projects would improve connectivity between the South-East and other parts of the country.
Umahi said the projects, including the Oweto Bridge in Nasarawa state, would improve travel and transportation links, potentially reducing the journey from parts of Ebonyi to Abuja to about three hours.
In his remarks, a traditional ruler, Sunday Oketa, assured the gathering that Ebonyi would support APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The sensitisation exercise formed part of the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the next general elections.
