Dutch inland shipping companies Amer Shipping and Van de Graaf & Meeusen have joined forces to establish a new chartering business in Antwerp, backed by a fresh dry cargo newbuilding order at Concordia Damen.
The two family-owned operators have launched TriBarge to target Belgian and French shippers, combining their existing networks and vessel capacity with plans for joint fleet investment.
The new company will handle dry cargo, general cargo and breakbulk movements across the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region, German canals, the Moselle and inland waterways reaching Basel.
Through its partnership with Stream Shipping, an existing venture between Amer Shipping and German cooperative MSG eG, TriBarge will also be able to serve destinations as far as the Black Sea.
The partners have already contracted an 85 m dry cargo vessel at Concordia Damen. The newbuilding, to be named Porta Sud, is scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2027 and will be designed to access smaller inland ports, tributaries and canals as well as major rivers.
The move comes just weeks after Amer Shipping returned to Concordia Damen for another two 110 m CDS Dry Cargo newbuildings, lifting its programme of shallow-draught vessels to six.
Those ships are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2027 and the second quarter of 2028. The first, AM Lianova, will join Stream Shipping, while the second will enter Amer’s own fleet.
Amer Shipping operates a network of close to 60 vessels, transporting around 9m tonnes of cargo annually across the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and Switzerland.
Its new partner, Van de Graaf & Meeusen, is a Ridderkerk-based inland shipping and chartering specialist with a fleet of pushboats and barges serving the dry bulk market.
TriBarge will operate from Antwerp’s Tweede Havendok, with Devin van Dam joining as a chartering broker on November 1. Another Belgian broker is expected to join in the second quarter of 2027.
