Two drug suspects were snatched after a group attacked a railway police outpost at Joydebpur Junction in Gazipur today (15 October), injuring two police personnel.
The attack took place around 5:15pm, said Zainal Abedin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhaka Railway Police Station.
According to the OC, railway police and security personnel arrested a man and a woman from platform 2 of Joydebpur Junction after receiving information that drugs were being sold there. The two were then taken to the railway police outpost.
Shortly afterwards, their associates allegedly arrived armed with machetes, sickles and other locally made weapons and stormed the outpost to free the detainees. They broke down a door and forced their way inside.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Nurul Islam and Constable Ashikur Rahman were injured in the attack. They were taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for treatment.
Railway police and members of Gazipur Metropolitan Police's Sadar Metro Police Station rushed to the scene after receiving information about the attack. The assailants fled as police arrived.
"Preparations are underway to file separate cases over the attack on police and under the Narcotics Control Act," the OC added.
