Calcutta, October 5: There was much excitement on board the steamer “Creeve Hall” on Monday forenoon when alarm was raised that a python had been seen among the cargo in the ship’s hold. According to the “Englishman”, the vessel had arrived the day previous from Colombo and was lying at No. 6 jetty. When coolies began unloading the cargo in twin decks of No. 6 hatch, a python was observed coiled up in one corner alongside some cargo. The chief officer immediately communicated with the police and Inspector Humble of the Reserve Force and Sergeant Green of the River Traffic police were soon on board both armed with shot guns. A hunt for the python then began by the police and the officers of the ship carrying electric torches and the coolies shifting the cargo.
