SAINT PETERSBURG: The Ukrainian and European approaches to ending the war in Ukraine that US envoy Steve Witkoff relayed to President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday lacked much substance, the Kremlin said.
The Kremlin added that Russia was ready to resume three-way talks with Ukraine and the US in November.
Witkoff held more than three hours of talks with Putin in Saint Petersburg on Wednesday, as Washington seeks to reinvigorate long-stalled efforts aimed at ending the Ukraine war.
The conflict, which is grinding through its fifth year, has become Europe's deadliest since World War II.
"Steve Witkoff briefed Vladimir Putin on the substance of the talks held in Oslo," Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters, referring to talks Witkoff held in Norway with Ukrainian and European officials on Tuesday.
"He mentioned some new aspects in the approaches of the Europeans and Kyiv... but there wasn't really much substance in them."
"Our president informed Steve Witkoff that we are, in principle, ready to resume the mentioned (trilateral) talks," he added, saying they could take place in mid-November.
These talks would focus on "building security ... after the end of the conflict," Ushakov added.
