The Sindh government has ordered a fresh investigation into Mir Raza Ali’s murder and alleged police negligence. Officials have formed a joint investigation team (JIT) to examine the case following a judicial commission’s report. A separate committee will investigate possible police misconduct and alleged efforts to cover up shortcomings. The move follows concerns raised by the victim’s family over the original investigation.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar said Deputy Inspector General Irfan Baloch would lead the new JIT. The team will include representatives from the Rangers, federal intelligence agencies and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. The government has also requested a Grade-18 Rangers officer for the team. Additionally, it has approached the federal interior ministry to nominate a Grade-20 Federal Investigation Agency officer for the separate inquiry.

The JIT will investigate the murder and submit the case challan to the court after completing legal requirements. Mir Raza Ali, a 25-year-old businessman, went missing from Karachi’s PECHS area on July 28, 2026. Authorities found his body in Gulistan-e-Jauhar two days later, showing signs of torture and gunshot wounds. Police initially suspected suicide, but his family alleged abduction, torture and murder.
Following the family’s concerns, authorities exhumed the body on August 8 for a second post-mortem examination. The investigation later moved to Zaman Town police station. The Sindh High Court established a judicial commission, which submitted its report to the provincial government on October 15. The provincial cabinet subsequently published the report on the government’s official website.
The government has also established a committee led by DIG Zulfiqar Larak to review police investigation procedures. It will examine crime scene operations and related departments before recommending reforms. Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has pledged to implement the commission’s recommendations.
