ONDANGWA – The murder case against Sinskus Johannes, who is accused of killing headman Sam Nepando and injuring National Planning Commission Executive Director I-Ben Nashandi during the incident, has been postponed for a bail application.
Johannes appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday. His case has been postponed to 22 and 23 October 2026, for the bail application. He will remain in custody. Johannes was arrested in January this year after he allegedly shot and killed Nepando and injured Nashandi.
The incident happened at Iikokola village in the Oshikoto region during a dispute over land. Nepando was shot and killed during a community meeting over the land dispute.
Villagers described the late Nepando as a leader by character, conduct and conviction. They said he understood leadership as a service rooted in patience, wisdom, dialogue and fairness, and dedicated his life to resolving disputes. Yesterday, Nepando’s family, friends and villagers gathered outside the court carrying posters calling on the court not to grant Johannes bail, saying he is accused of committing a serious crime.
They said they fear that if Johannes is released from custody, he could allegedly commit a similar crime. They are demanding justice for Nepando. – fhamalwa@nepc.com.na
