Santo Domingo.- Dominican politician and lawyer Pelegrín Castillo said Haiti’s institutional and security crisis is not the responsibility of the Dominican Republic, but the result of decisions made by international powers and multilateral organizations.
Speaking on Z Digital radio, Castillo questioned the geopolitical decisions that contributed to Haiti’s instability and criticized the withdrawal of international missions, including the United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH), arguing that their departure had negative consequences for regional security.
He also raised concerns about arms trafficking networks and the historical role of external actors in conflicts in the Caribbean.
Castillo rejected proposals from business sectors to pursue greater economic integration between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, arguing that the significant differences between the two economies and the presence of transnational organized crime make a unified market unviable.
He warned that transferring Haiti’s socioeconomic problems to Dominican territory could threaten the country’s stability and sovereignty. Castillo urged Dominican leaders to resist international pressure that, in his view, could undermine national interests and the labor rights of Dominican workers.
