YONGIN — The city of Yongin said on the 12th that it has designated Davos Hospital as a "Saessak Jikimi" hospital, a medical institution dedicated to child abuse cases, to ensure swift protection and specialized treatment for abused children.
A "Saessak Jikimi" hospital, which translates as "sprout guardian," is a medical institution that checks the health of children who have been abused or are suspected of being abused and provides examinations and treatment to help them return to daily life.
Under the designation, Davos Hospital will provide medical support from the stage of suspected abuse through recovery. Its main duties include making medical assessments of abused children, providing 24-hour emergency examinations and treatment, offering mental health counseling, and conducting physical and psychological screenings and care.
The city has been expanding its network of partnerships with local medical institutions to strengthen its child protection system. Davos Hospital is the sixth hospital in Yongin to receive the designation.
The city had previously designated five institutions: Gangnam Hospital, Medifield Hangang Hospital, Yongin Severance Hospital, Yongin Seoul Hospital and Seo Sang-hoon Psychiatric Clinic. Through them, the city is building a local protection system that spans from the discovery of abuse to treatment and recovery.
"Helping victimized children receive safe protection and regain their health is an important responsibility of local medical institutions," an official at Davos Hospital said. "As a designated institution, we will provide the medical support needed and actively cooperate in protecting children in the community."
A Yongin city official said, "For abused children to recover a healthy daily life, swift protection and specialized treatment must go hand in hand," adding, "With Davos Hospital joining, we will further strengthen cooperation with medical institutions and related agencies."
