An official high-ranking Indian defence delegation, led by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, visited Salamis Shipyards on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. The visit formed part of Singh’s official trip to Greece and his engagements with the political and military leadership of the Greek Ministry of National Defence.
The visit comes as Greece and India continue to strengthen their strategic and defence partnership, with particular focus on maritime security, the defence industry, shipbuilding technology, and joint industrial projects.
During the tour, the Indian delegation received a detailed briefing on Salamis Shipyards’ production, technical, and industrial capabilities. Officials also reviewed the yard’s experience in complex shipbuilding and defence programmes and discussed potential areas of cooperation of mutual interest.
Special attention was given to Salamis Shipyards’ international activities and its existing strategic partnership with the Indian company ACT Infraport Ltd. The collaboration began with a Memorandum of Technical Cooperation signed in January 2026 and was formalised further by a Technical Cooperation Agreement signed at the Salamis facilities on 5 June 2026. The agreement covers the development of a new modern greenfield shipbuilding and ship repair yard in the Gulf of Kutch, on India’s western coast in Gujarat.
Under the partnership, Salamis Shipyards will contribute technical know-how, best practices, and modern production and shipyard management methods. The goal is to establish an internationally competitive facility capable of shipbuilding, repairs, and conversions.
Salamis Shipyards CEO Dr. Georgios Koros described the visit as a special honour that confirms the strong prospects for further growth in Greek-Indian cooperation in the shipbuilding and defence sectors. He noted that the ACT Infraport partnership is already a concrete example of technology transfer and the creation of international industrial synergies. “We believe the two countries possess complementary strengths and solid foundations for developing new, mutually beneficial collaborations of high added value,” he said.
The Indian side included Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh (who had earlier met the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff), Indian Ambassador to Greece Ravi Shankar, and other senior members of the delegation. Officials from the Greek Ministry of National Defence accompanied the group.
The visit concluded with discussions on ways to deepen cooperation in the shipbuilding industry, technology, and defence production within the broader framework of the steadily expanding strategic relationship between Greece and India.
