Shilla Stay is running an art program that turns hotel guest rooms into studios for emerging artists and lets guests meet the artists and experience how their work is made.
The hotel chain said on the 15th that it is operating "Artisty Residency with Shilla Stay" together with the art platform Artisty. From August through Nov. 13, Shilla Stay has been providing guest rooms at its Gwanghwamun property as creative workspaces for the artists.
On selected dates, Shilla Stay opens the space to the general public. Participants can talk with the artists and look around the rooms being used as actual studios. The guest program consists of an "Artist Talk," in which artists explain their work and how they create it, a "Creative Art Session," in which participants try the techniques themselves, and an "Open Studio" tour of the artists' workspaces.
Three artists took part this year: Lee Chan-hee, Ha Go-mi and Hejin. The September sessions with Lee and Ha were fully booked in advance. The final guest program of the year, featuring Hejin, will be held on the 17th at Shilla Stay Gwanghwamun. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Shilla Stay website.
Shilla Stay has run the program since 2023 at properties including Shilla Stay Yeoksam and Shilla Stay Guro. "The program is designed to give artists a place to create and to give guests a chance to experience art up close," a Shilla Stay official said.
