After more than a decade of total inactivity, two historic Bitcoin wallets created in 2013 have suddenly awakened. By reactivating their access, their mysterious owner realizes a colossal gain of over 33 million dollars in the crypto market.
In Brief
- Two Bitcoin wallets dormant for over 12 years have transferred all their funds, totaling 417 BTC (~$33.85 million).
- Purchased respectively at $127 and $355 per token in 2013, these crypto wallets show exceptional gains of x638 and x229.
- The nearly simultaneous transfer to the same destination strongly suggests it is the same pioneering investor.
- A movement to a new on-chain address does not automatically mean a sale on a crypto exchange, but it raises vigilance.
Bitcoin: From HODL in 2013 to Jackpot in 2026
Analyzing blockchain movements can sometimes bring surprises. According to on-chain tracking data revealed by analysis platforms Lookonchain and TedPillows, two Bitcoin addresses dormant for more than 12 years suddenly reactivated. In 2013, when these tokens were first accumulated, bitcoin’s price was only 127 and 355 dollars according to the respective wallets. At that time, the total combined investment was about 140,000 dollars.
Today, while bitcoin trades above the 80,000 dollar mark, the total value of these 417 BTC transferred amounts to 33.85 million dollars, generating a dizzying net gain of nearly 33.7 million dollars. In detail, the first wallet containing 248.85 BTC (bought for 88,200 dollars at the time) appreciated to reach 20.22 million dollars, marking a multiplier of x229. The second wallet, composed of nearly 168 BTC acquired around 127 dollars, shows an even more colossal performance of x638.
| Data / Metric | Wallet A (TedPillows) | Wallet B (Lookonchain) | Cumulative Total |
| Bitcoin Balance | 248.85 BTC | ~168.15 BTC | 417 BTC |
| Initial Purchase Price (2013) | ~$355 / BTC ($88,200 total) ~$127 / BTC | ~$140,000 invested | |
| Value at Awakening (2026) | $20.22 million | $13.63 million $33.85 million | |
| Performance (Multiplier) | x229 | x638 | Net gain: +$33.7M |
Should We Fear Selling Pressure on BTC Price?
When such a large amount of Bitcoin inactive for over a decade resurfaces, the crypto ecosystem immediately seeks to assess the liquidity flight risk.
- The over-the-counter (OTC) sale scenario: If this whale decides to realize its profits, these $33.85 million could pass through OTC desks to avoid impacting bitcoin prices on mainstream crypto platforms such as Coinbase or Binance.
- The security scenario: Very often, the awakening of addresses from 2013 answers security requirements. Recent developments encourage early investors to migrate their tokens to more modern and better-secured crypto wallets.
For now, the tokens have simply been consolidated into new private addresses, ruling out the hypothesis of an immediate resale on the crypto market.
HODL Bitcoin: Survive 12 Years of Crypto Crashes Without Giving in to Panic
Beyond pure financial performance, the awakening of these bitcoin addresses highlights the iron discipline of some early investors. To turn a few tens of thousands of dollars invested in 2013 into a fortune of $33.85 million, this holder had to weather the worst storms of the crypto market without flinching. Notably, the Mt. Gox bankruptcy, the 2017 bubble, the 2020 crash, and the FTX collapse in 2022.
On-chain metrics indicate there may still be more than 1.7 million bitcoins contained in addresses inactive for over ten years. Each movement orchestrated by these historic actors thus constitutes a strong signal closely watched by the entire crypto community.
The awakening of these two 2013 wallets reminds us that thousands of bitcoins accumulated at the very beginning of crypto history remain under the control of patient pioneers. Whether it is a security migration or a future profit-taking, this transaction once again demonstrates the transparency and fascination exerted by the network. Do you think this is a simple migration or the start of massive profit taking on BTC?
