NFL media member goes off on Eagles’ ‘bats***’ handling of Jalen Hurts’ blood clot appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Philadelphia Eagles had enough bad press when their biggest problems were trying to manufacture consistent offense every Sunday. Now, many people are labeling the organization and its medical staff negligent for how it handled Jalen Hurts’ health during a Week 5 London game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. The star quarterback and Super Bowl 59 MVP was cleared to play after being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his calf. He now has blood clots in his lungs and will miss the remainder of the season. The NFL does not believe Philly broke protocol and will not hand out a punishment. The media is furious.
Sports betting writer Nick Kostos, who is a contributor for The Athletic, feels extreme condemnation is warranted.
“I think this is the single most bats*** story I’ve seen in my 36 years watching sports, 25 years in the sports media,” Kostos told Dave Dameshek on the “Football America” podcast. “The NFL and the Eagles are lucky this guy didn’t die on the field.”

The Hurts saga is puzzling for multiple reasons. Given that blood clots can move, fans are wondering why a doctor permitted No. 1 to play in England. A long trip back home also seems risky. And do not forget the questions regarding his sleep habits. A previous report that claimed Jalen Hurts was instructed to stay awake for 36 hours, which Kostos cited in his rant, was shot down by the Eagles and NFL. However, the 28-year-old QB and his teammates were advised to stay up late in order to stay on a United States body clock.
Regardless of how Hurts’ blood clot escalated to deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, the prevailing outside opinion is that more caution should have been exercised. Nick Kostos and many others believe the Eagles should answer for their controversial approach to the situation. Philadelphia stands by its process, however.
This story is unlikely to dissipate any time soon.
