Palo Alto startup Elorian has launched Glimpse, an AI model designed specifically for visual reasoning. The company says its own testing shows Glimpse outperforming GPT-6 Astra on two tasks: reasoning about scientific charts and captioning short-form video.
That is a bold claim from a company that only came out of stealth in April 2026. It is also, for now, a test graded by the student who sat the exam.
What Glimpse is claiming
According to Elorian’s evaluations, Glimpse came out ahead of GPT-6 Astra on scientific chart reasoning and short-form video captioning. On other visual reasoning tasks, the company describes its results as competitive rather than dominant.
The bigger idea behind Glimpse is architectural. Elorian builds native multimodal models, systems meant to work directly on images, video, and spatial or physical information without first converting any of it into text.
Elorian’s central bet is that this kind of direct visual reasoning, rather than a text-mediated workaround, is what high-quality physical-world intelligence requires. Its target uses include robotics, engineering, medicine, and scientific analysis.
A benchmark that exposes the gap
Elorian has been vocal about how far current models still trail people on visual tasks. The company collaborated on a benchmark called Humanity’s Sixth Sense, which quizzes models with questions built around images and video clips.
Across 522 questions, GPT-6 Astra scored 53.6. Humans averaged 93.1.
One caveat deserves a prominent spot. The Glimpse comparisons come from Elorian’s own evaluations, not from an independent lab. Outside testing will be the real report card.
The team and the money
Elorian was founded in 2025 by CEO Andrew Dai, Yinfei Yang, and Seth Neel. The founding team is made up of former researchers from Google DeepMind and Apple.
In April 2026, the company raised $55 million in seed funding at a $300 million valuation, with backing from Striker Venture Partners and Nvidia.
As of mid-October 2026, Elorian had fewer than 100 employees. It has been in discussions with potential customers across several sectors, including robotics and design tools, and maintains an early-access waitlist for users who want to get their hands on its technology.
The company had previously said it planned to release its first public model and API later in 2026. Glimpse marks its move from research thesis to an actual model people can evaluate.
What this means
Key things to watch: independent evaluations of Glimpse, how it scores on Humanity’s Sixth Sense against that human average of 93.1, which customers graduate from the waitlist, and whether the planned public API arrives in 2026 as promised.
