KUALA LUMPUR: Interpol has issued a Red Notice against Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd founder Datuk Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking during Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar said the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) resumed investigating Serba Dinamik transactions in 2023 following further disclosures after charges against the company were withdrawn in May 2022.
The probe also extended to related cases, including Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB), which involves Karim.
On March 12 this year, the SC said it had obtained a warrant of arrest against Karim, 61, a former SCIB chairman and non-executive, non-independent director who was then at large.
The regulator said the public prosecutor had consented to prosecuting Karim for allegedly causing SCIB to furnish a false statement to Bursa Malaysia. He was wanted for an offence under Section 369(b)(B) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007.
Karim was previously charged in 2021 over false information in Serba Dinamik's financial statements. The case was later resolved through a RM3 million compound after the public prosecutor accepted his representation.
Anwar said the SC had initiated 239 criminal charges against 50 individuals as part of stepped-up enforcement against corporate crime.
He said the enforcement efforts included cases that had been at risk of being closed in May 2022, when the SC withdrew all charges against Serba Dinamik.
"Following continued disclosures about the matter, the SC began investigating transactions involving not only Serba Dinamik from 2023 onwards, but also related cases, including Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd, which involves Datuk Karim. Most recently, Interpol issued a Red Notice against him.
"This demonstrates an increase in the Securities Commission's enforcement actions, both criminal and civil," he said.
