Jeff Bezos has been linked to a record-breaking $69.5 million oceanfront mansion in Golden Beach, Florida, near Miami’s ‘Billionaire Bunker’, a purchase that could expand his reported $234 million real estate portfolio if confirmed.
A record-breaking real estate deal in South Florida has put the spotlight on Golden Beach, an exclusive oceanfront neighbourhood near Miami’s Indian Creek Island, popularly known as the ‘Billionaire Bunker’.
A sprawling 17,500-square-foot estate at 255 Ocean Boulevard was sold for $69.5 million in September, setting a local sales record. The buyer’s identity has fuelled speculation, with sources linking the purchase to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, although his involvement has not been confirmed.According to property records reviewed by Fox News Digital, the estate was purchased by Delaware-based Meridian Coast LLC. Sources familiar with the transaction told The Real Deal that the entity is linked to Bezos. However, real estate experts have cautioned against drawing conclusions about the buyer’s identity without confirmation. The transaction has also highlighted the growing appeal of Golden Beach, where privacy, direct access to the Atlantic Ocean and a limited supply of beachfront properties are attracting ultra-high-net-worth buyers.
Why Golden Beach could complement Jeff Bezos’ Indian Creek property portfolio
If Bezos is confirmed as the buyer, the Golden Beach estate would add to his reported $234 million real estate portfolio on Indian Creek Island, a highly secured enclave favoured by some of the world’s wealthiest residents.
Devin Kay of The Exclusive Group at Douglas Elliman told Fox News Digital that such an acquisition would make sense for someone who already owns property on Indian Creek, as the two locations offer different experiences.“I can't speak to whether Jeff Bezos is involved in this particular transaction, but from a real estate perspective, the acquisition would make sense for someone with an existing footprint on Indian Creek.
The two properties would serve entirely different purposes,” Kay said.According to Kay, an oceanfront home in Golden Beach could serve as a private beach retreat, offering something different from a waterfront estate overlooking Biscayne Bay.“There’s a significant difference between owning a waterfront estate on Biscayne Bay and having direct frontage on the Atlantic Ocean. Golden Beach offers something that’s increasingly difficult to replicate in South Florida,” he explained.
Golden Beach attracts billionaires with privacy and beachfront access
Jordan Karp, Miami’s No. 9 agent by sales, told Fox News Digital that wealthy buyers are increasingly looking at properties that serve distinct lifestyle needs rather than relying on a single primary residence.“Golden Beach is the only neighbourhood in Miami offering true, oceanfront homes sitting directly on the beach with absolute privacy,” Karp said.He added that buyers at this level may acquire separate properties for living, entertaining, accommodating staff or enjoying occasional beach getaways. For ultra-wealthy individuals, the decision is not necessarily between owning a property on Indian Creek and one in Golden Beach. Instead, the two locations can serve different purposes within a broader real estate portfolio.Kay described this trend as “lifestyle diversification”, noting that wealthy buyers are placing greater value on flexibility, privacy, security and convenience. He also cautioned that high-profile names are often associated with expensive property transactions even when the buyer’s identity remains undisclosed.“The reality is that South Florida’s billionaire buyer pool has expanded considerably. There are international business owners, hedge fund executives, technology founders and multi-generational families quietly acquiring some of the most valuable real estate in the region,” Kay said.
Limited oceanfront land pushes Golden Beach property values higher
One of Golden Beach’s biggest draws is the scarcity of its oceanfront properties. Unlike areas dominated by high-rise developments, the neighbourhood is known for its private residences and direct access to sandy Atlantic beaches.Karp said the area has approximately 60 homes along its oceanfront stretch, with demand outstripping the limited supply of properties available for purchase.“Oceanfront single-family land in Miami-Dade County is virtually extinct,” he said, adding that buyers are willing to pay a premium for land that cannot easily be replicated.According to Karp, some wealthy buyers are acquiring two or three neighbouring plots to create expansive residential compounds, further reducing the inventory of available beachfront properties.Kay echoed this assessment, pointing to the finite number of single-family oceanfront parcels and the limited opportunities to acquire substantial beachfront estates. For buyers who can afford properties at this level, he said, the appeal lies in owning something that cannot simply be recreated elsewhere.
From a quiet residential enclave to a luxury real estate hotspot
Golden Beach has traditionally been regarded as a quieter, family-oriented community, distinct from the high-profile social scene of Miami Beach and the established wealth of Palm Beach. The neighbourhood also has its own municipal police force and zoning restrictions that prohibit high-rise developments, helping preserve its low-rise residential character. However, multimillion-dollar transactions are changing how the market perceives the area. Kay said sales ranging from $50 million to nearly $70 million have increasingly positioned Golden Beach among the country’s most exclusive oceanfront residential markets. He maintained that the neighbourhood’s appeal is not entirely new. Rather, the concentration of wealth in South Florida and the growing number of buyers seeking rare beachfront properties have brought greater attention to its real estate market.
Discretion becomes crucial in multimillion-dollar property deals
At the highest end of the property market, the process of buying and selling a home can be markedly different from a conventional real estate transaction.Kay said factors such as confidentiality, the certainty of closing a deal and the ability to complete a transaction without complications can be just as important as the price.Karp also highlighted the role of family offices, wealth managers and specialised attorneys in facilitating these transactions, often under strict non-disclosure agreements. He said buyers’ teams may thoroughly vet a property before a viewing, with privacy protocols sometimes restricting even real estate agents from attending a client’s final walkthrough. At this level, discretion is not merely a preference but an essential part of the transaction, Karp explained. The $69.5 million sale of 255 Ocean Boulevard therefore represents more than a record-breaking property deal. It underscores the growing competition for rare oceanfront estates in South Florida, where privacy, exclusivity and limited land supply continue to shape the luxury housing market.Douglas Elliman’s Dina Goldentayer represented the seller of the Golden Beach estate, while Jill Eber and Hillary Hertzberg of The Jills Zeder Group at Coldwell Banker Realty represented the buyer.Neither Goldentayer nor The Jills Zeder Group immediately responded to the publication’s request for comment.
