Linda Cohn is taking heat from WNBA fans after questioning whether Angel Reese is driving ticket demand for the Atlanta Dream’s Finals games and challenging comparisons to Caitlin Clark’s impact.
The Dream and the Golden State Valkyries are tied 1-1 in the WNBA Finals, with the series shifting to Atlanta for Game 3 tonight. It’s the first of two home games Cohn discussed.
Linda Cohn Draws Sharp Criticism From WNBA Fans Over Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark Remarks
In a Friday post on X, Cohn challenged comparisons between Reese and Clark: “People are already trying to compare the Angel Reese effect with a Caitlin Clark effect. And my question is, based on what exactly? A few ticket listings?”
One fan pointed to the reported ticket sales in response: “Both games sold out in minutes.”
Another criticized Cohn’s focus on ticket sales rather than the championship series itself.
“This is a member of sports media who’s not talking about the actual game, not the actual WNBA Finals… but ticket sales! Truly embarrassing!!”
“You’re pathetic,” one fan wrote.
A different fan called out Cohn’s coverage: “Respect used to be attached to your name when it came to sports coverage. This reaching is ridiculous.”
One longtime sports enthusiast recalled watching Cohn during her ESPN years.
“Growing up on ESPN as a kid, I used to love watching this woman. She had great timing when she was paired with Rich Eisen or Stuart Scott. They would run their schtick with her and wouldn’t miss a beat… It’s sad to watch her now.”
“Goin out sad,” another fan posted.
The Valkyries won Game 1, 68-64, before Reese led Atlanta to a 79-65 Game 2 victory with 30 points and 16 rebounds. It was the Dream’s first Finals win in franchise history.
According to the North Atlanta Star, Reese became only the third player with at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in a Finals game. Allisha Gray added 18 points, while Jordin Canada finished with 13 points and 10 assists.
Atlanta moved Games 3 and 4 from Gateway Center Arena, with about 3,500 basketball seats, to State Farm Arena, a venue that accommodates roughly 17,000 fans. TickPick reported a $201 get-in price for Game 3, the highest for a WNBA Finals game in its records.
Game 3 is sold out, according to the same outlet. The Dream will host their first home Finals game since 2013 tonight, with Game 4 scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
