Guwahati, Oct 14: The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Guwahati Zonal Unit, has reportedly launched a multi-location enforcement operation across Guwahati, Delhi, Dhupguri and Greater Noida over suspected tax evasion linked to the transportation, storage and trading of Vimal Pan Masala without proper invoices.
Goods and vehicles valued at approximately ₹7 crore have reportedly been seized or detained so far, although the figure remains provisional. The suspected tax liability has not yet been officially quantified.
The operation, reportedly led by Additional Director General Rajiv Garg, began early Wednesday with the interception of two vehicles bearing registration numbers NL 01AD 7495 and RJ09GD3923 in Dhupguri. The vehicles were travelling from Delhi towards Guwahati and were suspected of carrying pan masala without the required tax documentation.
Following the interception, DGGI teams reportedly searched the residences of transporters Mohit Bakshi and Sameer Bakshi in Delhi’s Model Town area. Officials are said to have recovered documents and other material that could help investigators trace the alleged supply chain.
In Guwahati, officials reportedly intercepted five more vehicles carrying Vimal Pan Masala in the Railway Station–Azara area. Searches were also conducted at premises associated with traders Kamlesh Tiwari, Anuj Tiwari and Munna Tiwari, along with several godowns allegedly linked to the business network.
The operation also extended to Greater Noida, where manufacturing facilities associated with JB Industries and BG Tobacco were reportedly searched. Investigators are examining production records, invoices, stock movements and dispatch details to identify possible discrepancies and establish the movement of the consignments.
The investigation is focused on determining the origin and ownership of the goods, tracing their distribution network and verifying whether applicable GST requirements were followed.
Searches and verification were reportedly continuing at multiple locations at the time of publication. Further details on the seizures and the suspected tax liability are awaited.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and no conclusion regarding the culpability of the individuals or businesses concerned has been established.
