Facebook is introducing AI-powered controls to customize its Feed and Reels recommendations by describing their interests in their own words. The new feature, called Your Algorithm, aims to make content recommendations more relevant by allowing people to directly influence what appears on the platform. Meta announced the update on October 13, 2026.
Facebook Introduces Your Algorithm Feature
The new Your Algorithm tool gives users a dedicated space to add and manage topics they want to see in their Feed and Reels. They can access the feature through the three-dot menu on individual posts and adjust their preferences based on their interests.
For instance, users can ask Facebook to show more technology updates, travel videos, or cooking tutorials. They can also indicate which topics they would prefer to see less often. The feature lets users influence recommendations directly rather than relying solely on Facebook’s interpretation of their browsing and engagement patterns.
Users Can Provide Detailed Feedback on Content
Facebook is also expanding the feedback options available on posts. Users can select ‘Interested’ or ‘Not interested’ to indicate whether specific content matches their preferences. The platform may ask follow-up questions to understand their choices in greater detail.
Meta is incorporating large language models (LLMs) into its recommendation systems to improve how Facebook interprets user preferences. Traditionally, the platform has relied on signals such as likes, comments, shares and viewing behavior to determine which content may interest individual users.
LLMs can interpret the context and intent behind natural-language instructions. This allows Facebook to combine users’ direct feedback with existing behavioral signals when deciding which posts and videos to recommend. Facebook’s ranking systems will continue to determine which content appears, using multiple signals to personalize recommendations.
