Riyadh – The US Embassy in Riyadh announced on Monday that US government employees must obtain special authorization before using any airport in Saudi Arabia, expanding previous precautionary measures amid escalating Houthi attacks on the Kingdom's airports.
In a statement, the embassy said, "US government employees working in Saudi Arabia must obtain special authorization to use any airport in the Kingdom."
It urged US citizens to "exercise extreme caution" when using Saudi airports, given the heightened security tensions.
Last week, the embassy announced this measure for government employees wishing to use King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
On Sunday, the embassy expanded the measure to include Jeddah and Dammam airports, before announcing on Monday its application to all airports in the Kingdom.
The decision comes amid escalating Houthi attacks on Saudi airports, raising concerns about the impact of this escalation on air traffic and passenger safety.
The requirement to obtain special permission is limited to US government employees, while the embassy issued a general warning to its citizens regarding the use of airports in Saudi Arabia.
