Former Celtic attacker Daizen Maeda has netted an equaliser against Manchester City for new side Ipswich Town. The Japanese Internationalist left Celtic in the summer for the newly promoted Tractor Boys and his pressing attributes have impressed in the Premier League.
However, he has had to wait until this afternoon to find the net. After being slid in against Gianluigi Donnarumma, Maeda showed great composure to slot his finish beyond the rangy goalie.
Maeda became a cult hero at Celtic, verging on legend status for his trophy laden four and a half years in Glasgow. Maeda’s last goal at Celtic Park came in the deciding day as Celtic beat Hearts 3-1. Maeda struck in 87th minute to break the Hearts.
The Tynecastle outfit arrive at Celtic Park tomorrow for the first time since the dramatic scenes of May’s match. Celtic fans reflect fondly on that day while Hearts fans will not wish to be reminded of how close they came.
