Lady Vols basketball forward Fatmata Janneh missed an open scrimmage Oct. 17 with a left ankle injury.
The Texas A&M transfer and one of Tennessee's top offseason additions tweaked her ankle in practice on Friday and did not participate in the scrimmage open to fans. She had a walking boot on her left foot.
Janneh’s injury is not considered to be a long-term issue.
Janneh was a vocal presence from the bench as the Lady Vols scrimmaged against the male practice players. The 6-foot-2 Janneh often stood at the baseline, yelling out play calls and supporting her teammates on both sides of the court. The Lady Vols won the scrimmage 109-79, with help from 30 points by Kaylene Smikle.
Janneh averaged 11.4 points and 9.7 rebounds with the Aggies last season. She also averaged 1.4 steals and 1.1 assists in 26.4 minutes, starting all 27 games. She was leading rebounder and 3-point shooter and second-leading scorer at Texas A&M.
The senior is with her third school in four years. Janneh spent two seasons at Saint Peter’s, where she earned All-MAAC First Team honors, before transferring to Texas A&M.
