LARAGH-GLENDALOUGH
Glendalough Green Shop/Cafe
The community will greatly miss Glendalough Green Cafe when it closes its doors on 26th October, after 20 wonderful years of serving the people of Laragh and the many visitors who have passed through the village.
Over the years, the café has been so much more than a place to have a coffee or something to eat. It became a special place where people could meet, catch up, share stories, enjoy good food and drink, and simply sit and watch village life unfold around them.
A heartfelt thank you to Clodagh, who first opened the café/shop and created such a welcoming space, hosting wonderful events such as the Fireside Sessions and providing wholesome, nourishing food. And to Yurga, who later carried that spirit forward, greeting everyone with such warmth and continuing the special ethos of the café and shop.
You both created a place where people felt at home, and that is something very special. You will be missed. We wish you both all the very best for the future.

New Safety Fencing - New fencing has been erected at the club as an important safety measure, helping to prevent children and adults coming straight out from the shop and dressing room area directly onto the roadway. A huge thank you to John Coogan of Coogan Fencing for the great job and for getting it completed for us. If you’re looking to have any fencing work done, we’d highly recommend getting in touch with Coogan Fencing.Another important improvement to help keep everyone using our club grounds safe.
Unused hurls and hurling helmets - Avondale GAA will be running a new programme in our local schools, helping to introduce more children to hurling and give them the opportunity to get involved in our games.
To help us get the programme up and running, we are looking for hurls and hurling helmets. If your child has a hurl or helmet that they have outgrown or no longer use, we would be delighted to give it a new home and put it to great use as part of this programme. Instead of sitting unused at home, your old equipment could help another child pick up a hurl and enjoy the game for the first time.
If you have any hurls or helmets you would be happy to donate, please make contact with us. Every donation will help us bring hurling into our local schools and encourage the next generation of players.
Wicklow GAA Cash Bonanza - We’re asking all our members, families and supporters to get behind the Wicklow GAA Cash Bonanza. If Avondale meets our ticket sales quota, money from the draw comes directly back into our club, so every ticket sold can make a real difference to Avondale GAA.
There are €25,000 in cash prizes to be won. 1st Prize – €12,500. 2nd Prize – €5,000. 3rd Prize – €2,500 Plus 13 more cash prizes! Tickets: 1 Ticket €20 3 Tickets €50. To purchase a ticket by Cash or Revolut, contact: Club Secretary Helen on 086 805 8983Juvenile Secretary – Paula on 087 670 4216 When paying, please include your: Name, Address & Phone Number so your ticket stub can be completed correctly. Grand Draw is on Monday, 7th December.
Nursery Coaches Needed - We are looking for parents, guardians or club members who would be willing to give up a little of their time to become a coach with our Nursery Programme for 2027.
Our Nursery is where it all begins introducing our youngest children to Gaelic games in a fun, friendly and welcoming environment. But we need your help to make it happen. Without volunteer coaches, this programme simply cannot run.You don’t need to have previous coaching experience or to have played GAA. Full training and support will be provided, and you won’t be doing it alone.
If your child will be joining the Nursery, or you simply have some time to give back to the club, we would really love to hear from you. Every successful underage team starts somewhere – and for our youngest members, it starts with the Nursery and the people willing to give their time. Interested in getting involved? Please contact us or send the club a message.
