Lahj – Yemeni sources reported on Monday that government forces suffered casualties in Houthi missile attacks targeting their positions in the coastal area of Ras al-Ara in Lahj Governorate.
On Monday, Yemeni government forces thwarted a large-scale Houthi attack in Taiz Governorate, in the southwest of the country, while fierce battles continued with the group in Lahj and Marib Governorates.
A Yemeni military source told the German Press Agency (dpa) that "government forces thwarted an attack launched by Houthi militias in the al-Dhabab area, west of Taiz city, where the attackers attempted to approach the city's entrance."
The source added that "the battles lasted for hours and resulted in a number of attackers being killed or wounded, without specifying an exact toll."
The al-Dhabab area is considered one of the most important military fronts in Taiz, due to its proximity to the western entrance of the densely populated city. It also connects the governorate to Lahj and Aden Governorates in the south of the country.
In Lahj Governorate, southwestern Yemen, a source reported "fierce clashes between the Giants Brigades and the Subaiha tribes on one side, and the Houthis on the other, in the Al-Mudharabah district."
The source explained that the fighting erupted as a result of Houthi attempts to advance from the Al-Mudharabah district with the aim of reaching the coast and cutting off supply lines to the Kahbub and Bab al-Mandab fronts.
The source warned of the seriousness of the situation on the ground, emphasizing the need for military reinforcements and air support to prevent the fighting from spreading to the Ras Imran area, near the interim capital, Aden.
Marib Governorate
In a related development, the Yemeni army stated in a press release that its forces "continued their operations against the Houthi militia within the area of operations of the Seventh Military Region on the northern fronts of Marib Governorate, as part of Operation 'Dawn of Yemen'."
The statement added: "Our armed forces are engaged in direct and continuous battles with the rebel and terrorist militias, destroying their capabilities with devastating strikes carried out by warplanes, drones, artillery, and rocket launchers."
These developments come about a week after the head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, announced the launch of a military operation called "Dawn of Yemen," which he said aimed to liberate the country from the Houthis and regain control of the capital, Sana'a.
