A letter from the 6-year-old daughter of a firefighter who died while responding to a factory fire in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, has gone viral online.
Rep. Song Young-gil of the Democratic Party posted photos on his social media on Saturday showing the letter written by the firefighter’s daughter, who will start elementary school early next year.
The letter began, “To my dad, whom I miss.”
“Dad (you) passed away yesterday, but I miss you so much already,” the girl wrote.
“My dear dad, let’s meet again someday. When we do, I’ll probably be all grown up,” she added.
Song wrote on social media that the firefighter’s portrait and his daughter’s letter moved him to tears at the funeral.
The fire broke out Friday at the four-story metalworking factory in Bucheon. Fire authorities fully extinguished the blaze about 2 1/2 hours later.
The fire claimed the life of Kim Jin-seok, a 44-year-old firefighter, and seriously injured another firefighter in his 40s.
Four other firefighters suffered heat exhaustion, while two factory workers were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and other injuries. In total, one person was killed and seven others were injured.
