There is no doubt that education is a fundamental transformation agent in the modern world, building and securing the lives of young people who otherwise may have remained in the backwoods and outright obscurity.
For many Nigerian children without the privilege of the silver spoon, acquiring education, most often, comes with several encumbrances that overwhelm and abort their dreams of the good life and economic opportunities that education offers. In the recent past in particular, for many children in underserved communities, lunchtime was once a daily reminder of hardship. While some arrived at school with little or no food, others relied on a simple meal of garri and salt, often soaked with water fetched from nearby wells.
For growing children, such meals provided little of the nutrition required to support healthy physical growth, concentration, and effective learning, with teachers frequently observing pupils struggling to remain attentive in class as hunger buffeted them and affected their energy levels. The lack of nutritious meals in some economically disadvantaged homes affected the children’s participation and overall classroom performance.
However, the scenario has changed today in some of these poor homes with the intervention of the Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation, which is providing stress relief to many distressed families by providing healthy nutritious meals for their children in their various public primary schools. Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation’s “Early Childhood School Feeding Programme” is providing healthy, nutritious meals to hundreds of pupils in underserved communities for their proper physiological growth and overall wellbeing. This worthy philanthropic cause takes away the burden of the pupils’ feeding from their poor and yoked parents.
By tackling classroom hunger and supporting child nutrition, the initiative helps improve school attendance, cognitive development, and learning outcomes. Beyond addressing hunger, the programme is also helping children approach learning with renewed energy, improved concentration, and greater enthusiasm for school.
The Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation (OFF) has come to mediate and bridge the social and economic disparities which often times abort the educational dreams of the children from the less privileged homes by extending a helping hand and lifeline to them so that they can realise their future aspirations and become fulfilled, productive, and enlightened citizens. The Foundation’’s initiative is helping to break down the barriers of class, wealth and social status that often separate children from privileged homes from those born into indigent families in terms of educational opportunities and access to education.
Mrs Olawumi Fajemirokun, the amiable and public-spirited Executive Director of the Foundation, whose love for humanity, education, social equity, and a just society is championing this philanthropic cause that targets the foundation of national development – education. Under her able leadership, the Foundation instituted the “Early Childhood School Feeding” programme to encourage high school enrolment among the children of Indigent parents.

There is no gainsaying the fact that most public school pupils from indigent homes barely feed once daily. Even at that, the one meal is usually deficient in essential nutrients required for proper physiological growth, cognitive development, and overall well-being of the pupils. This is the reason why some indigent pupils perform poorly in their studies as hunger and academic excellence are mutually exclusive.
However, through the Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation’s Early Childhood School Feeding Programme, hundreds of pupils in underserved communities now receive nutritious, balanced meals required for proper physiological growth and overall wellbeing. By tackling classroom hunger and supporting child nutrition, the initiative helps improve school attendance, cognitive development, and learning outcomes.
Speaking on the Foundation’s continued investment in child nutrition and education, the Executive Director, Mrs Olawumi Fajemirokun, emphasized that no child should be denied the opportunity to reach their full potential because of hunger. “Nutrition is fundamental to learning and development. When children are well nourished, they are better able to concentrate, participate in class, and achieve their academic potential. Through our school feeding programme, we are not simply providing meals; we are investing in healthier futures, stronger communities, and the next generation of leaders.
“The Foundation’s intervention comes at a critical time when many households are experiencing economic challenges that directly affect children’s access to adequate nutrition. By reducing hunger among school-age children, OFF seeks to improve enrollment, attendance, retention, and educational participation while supporting the overall wellbeing of vulnerable families. Education and child welfare remain central pillars of the Foundation’s broader development agenda,” she explained.
The Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation further revealed its plans to adopt three more schools in the new academic session. Beyond school feeding, the Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation continues to deliver impactful interventions across healthcare, nutrition, economic empowerment, and community development. Its Sustainable Malnutrition Intervention (SMALINT) programme has made significant strides in improving child nutrition and supporting vulnerable mothers through nutrition education, food demonstration classes, and economic empowerment opportunities.
The Foundation’s commitment to child development aligns with its mission of empowering Nigerian communities with sustainable development tools and programmes. Echoing this commitment, the Head of Programmes and Projects, Mr Kenechukwu Egbue, noted that the programme is deliberately designed as a long-term educational and human capital development intervention rather than a short-term welfare initiative.
Through strategic partnerships and community engagement, the programme has contributed to improved health outcomes for children while promoting long-term household resilience and food security. In the area of youth development and entrepreneurship, the Foundation’s Business Innovation and Talent Expression (BITE) programme continues to nurture young innovators, entrepreneurs, and problem-solvers through mentorship, enterprise training, and business support opportunities.
Since its establishment, the Foundation has expanded its reach across multiple communities in Nigeria, impacting hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries through targeted interventions in nutrition, education, healthcare, and economic support. Its work reflects the enduring philanthropic vision of its founder, Chief Oladele Fajemirokun, whose commitment to nation-building continues to inspire sustainable social investments and community transformation.
Through various initiatives over the years, the Foundation has supported schools, students, teachers, and families across multiple communities while advancing access to quality education and improved living conditions for underserved populations.
As the Foundation continues to invest in the wellbeing of children, its message remains clear: no child should have to learn on an empty stomach. For hundreds of young learners supported through the Early Childhood School Feeding Programme, each nutritious meal represents more than food; it represents hope, opportunity, improved health, and a stronger foundation for lifelong learning and success. The Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation remains steadfast in its vision of uplifting Nigerian communities from adverse living conditions and replacing them with sustainable growth and self-reliance, one child, one family, and one community at a time.
The Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation is another noble initiative of giving back to the soceity and by extension supporting the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme of federal government in public schools.
