Over 900 constituents have benefitted from the economic empowerment programme carried out by the Senator representing Benue North-West Senatorial District, Sen. Titus Zam.
The project was carried out as part of his constituency projects.
The empowerment items include: 180 motorcycles, 320 sewing machines, 300 grinding machines, 60 power hand tillers and 40 car wash pumping machines. The items were meant to promote entrepreneurship, job creation and economic self-reliance among the constituents.
Distributing the items on Friday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, Sen. Zam reaffirmed his commitment to economic empowerment, education, agriculture and infrastructure development of his constituents and the state at large.
He reaffirmed his commitment to economic empowerment, education, agriculture and infrastructure development, saying that the empowerment programme was the sixth edition.
He highlighted previous interventions, including scholarships for 350 indigent tertiary students, fertiliser distribution, support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the construction of schools, clinics, roads, boreholes and other infrastructure.
Zam commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) and thanked its leadership for supporting the programme.
He also appreciated the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for appointing him as pioneer Chairman of the Senate Committee on NCDC and acknowledged the support of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NCDC, Cosmas Akighir, said the commission remains committed to improving livelihoods through empowerment, humanitarian assistance, infrastructure, agriculture, education, vocational training and youth and women’s development.
He urged beneficiaries to use the items productively and extend the benefits to their families and communities.
Former Executive Secretary, Shippers Council, Emmanuel Jime, lauded Senator Zam’s performance, saying he deserves a second term to enable him to apply the experience garnered during his first tenure to provide more effective representation.
He urged beneficiaries to reciprocate by mobilising support for Zam’s re-election in 2027.
Also, former House of Representatives member, John Dyegh, expressed confidence in Zam’s re-election prospects, citing the anticipated support of political leaders and voters in Gboko and other parts of the senatorial district.
He described the empowerment programme as an investment in economic independence and grassroots development.
The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Mr Ahee Akwaya, said the committee held several meetings to plan the programme, ensure orderly distribution and promote transparency.
He commended Senator Zam for his huge contributions to the lives of the constituents, describing the items as tools for sustainable livelihoods and community development.
