A GB News panel was thrown into utter disarray after a heated row broke out between the presenter and one of the guests on the show.
The network has been at the centre of its fair share of shocking moments and live on-air snafus over the years, and this latest debacle is another one to add to the ever-growing list.
The almost unbelievable scenes that looked more at home on EastEnders than a news channel took place during a segment on the programme discussing whether ‘public service broadcasting is in crisis’.
Host Nana Akua called out guest and writer Andy Twelves, and the whole situation soon spiralled into chaos.
If the interaction proved one thing, public service broadcasting may or may not be in crisis, but GB News certainly is.
The pair started clashing during the discussion when Nana tried to ask about whether BBC should be broadcasting Glastonbury, and Twelves needled her by saying: ‘I thought this was supposed to be a free speech channel’, sparking a fiery back-and-forth in which he declared she had ‘no control over this panel’.
It all really kicked off, however, when Nana had clearly had enough of Twelves’ behaviour, having already accused him of disrespect.
And if you can’t bring yourself to watch the endless clip, I’ve already sacrificed my morning watching it so let me give you the rundown.
‘Can I just be really clear to you Andy Twelves, I’m hosting this show so if you’re not…’ she began before Andy interrupted her.
‘Are you?’ Andy questioned, ‘I don’t think the viewers would have got that from your performance there. You have pretty poor hosting skills, you lost control of your panel.’
With a look more deadly than a poisonous snake, she replied: ‘Have you quite finished’ to which Andy succintly replied: ‘No’.
‘All right what else have you got to say go on, carry on, carry on,’ Nana quipped as she leant back with her arms crossed.
In case you have forgotten, let me remind you this is all live on air.
As Andy attempted to talk, Nana continued: ‘Well let’s hear it, let’s get it all out now so when you’ve managed to purge yourself from what it is that you have against me… then once we’ve done that we can get on with the show.’
When Andy tried to reply, Nana kept on cajoling him by asking ‘what else’ until he repeated that she’s ‘not an especially good host and lost control of the panel’.
‘Is that it, have you done?’ she asked, as Andy incredulously asked: ‘Why are we doing this on air?’.
‘I’m waiting for you to finish because you’re being extremely disrespectful,’ she began and then the two descended into just talking over each other as they repeated the same points.
‘I reckon this is very unprofessional of you,’ Andy said with a concerned expression but stern as ever Nana replied: ‘It’s extremely rude of you as well, have you finished.’
Showing no signs of letting up, Andy declared: ‘Nana, why are you keeping this going, this is silly. Come on you’re meant to be the chair here, come on. Let’s end this, come on.’
Unwilling to back down without getting in another shot, Nana added: ‘Don’t disrepect me Andy, because I’m not going to tolerate it , just to be clear to you.’
We won’t bore you, but this goes on much the same for a little while longer, once again, live on air. At one point Andy himself admitted: ‘We’re going in circles here’ and for the first time, Nana agreed with him!
I almost can’t bear to tell you that after agreeing they were going in circles, they both continued circling until finally viewers were released from the sweet agony by Nana turning to the camera to say: ‘Pathetic, childish and ridiculous’.
And…. scene.
So far, neither Nana nor Andy have publicly addressed the shocking live scenes, though perhaps it’s for the best.
But those who have seen it have made their incredulity clear, with one person calling it ‘absolutely deranged’ and another labelling it an ‘extraordinary childish row’.
One thing’s for sure, it’s enough to keep your Wednesday interesting.
