Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed left-arm spinner Nahida Akter as captain of the women's T20 team, replacing Nigar Sultana Joty, who has stepped down to focus on her game.
Sobhana Mostary has been named vice-captain, BCB women's wing chairman Rafiqul Islam told the media today (18 October).
"We sat with members of the selection panel along with others and decided to hand over the T20I captaincy to Nahida. Sobhana Mostary will be her deputy," he said.
Nahida has served as Joty's deputy since Joty took charge of the T20 team in 2022. The board considers this an appropriate time to hand her the leadership role after several years as vice-captain.
Joty will continue to captain Bangladesh in one-day internationals (ODIs). She recently led the team in a three-match series against Australia.
Bangladesh's next international assignment is the ICC Women's Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand, where the team is scheduled to begin its campaign against Pakistan on 12 November.
