Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC have received 30 return air tickets to Egypt ahead of their maiden appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League, which kicks off on November 1.
The tickets, provided by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), will ease the team’s travel costs as the Ugandan champions prepare to compete against some of Africa’s leading women’s clubs.
The tournament, scheduled to run until November 15, will be held in Egypt, where Kawempe will carry Uganda’s hopes after becoming the first club from the country to qualify for the continental competition.
The team earned its place after winning the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) zonal qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, on August 31.
Kawempe defeated Kenya Police Bullets 1-0 in the final at Kigali Pele Stadium, with captain Agnes Nabukenya scoring the decisive goal in extra time to secure the historic qualification.
Their qualification campaign was equally impressive, with the team winning all four matches, scoring 13 goals and conceding none.
The travel support was approved by FUFA’s Executive Committee as part of efforts to help the club prepare for its continental assignment. The association has also maintained support for women’s football since the introduction of the national women’s league in 2015.
Kawempe head to Egypt on the back of another successful domestic campaign, having won the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League title with 52 points.
They finished just one point ahead of second-placed She Corporate, who collected 51 points, to secure their sixth league crown. Their previous titles came in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2024.
The Ugandan champions have been drawn in Group B alongside Morocco’s AS FAR, Mali’s USFAS Bamako and Nigeria’s Edo Queens, representing the West African Football Union Zone B.
Kawempe will open their group campaign against AS FAR on November 2 before facing Edo Queens on November 5. They will conclude the group stage against USFAS Bamako on November 8.
The top two teams in the group will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for November 11, putting pressure on Kawempe to make a strong start if they are to progress beyond the group stage.
Their qualification has already secured a place for Uganda in the history of African women’s club football, but the team will now seek to translate that breakthrough into competitive results against the continent’s established sides.
