PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will cooperate with the police to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation into a crash that killed one of its personnel and seriously injured another near the Senawang exit on the North-South Expressway last night.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said action would be taken against any party found to have violated the law or committed misconduct.
"If there are any legal violations, misconduct, or negligence identified through the investigation, action will be taken against the responsible parties in accordance with the provisions of the law and regulations in force," he said in a statement.
Loke extended his condolences to the family of Negri Sembilan RTD Enforcement Assistant Grade KP2 Mohd Azrul Rashid Yaakub, who was killed in the accident while on duty.
"Azrul's passing is a great loss, particularly to his family and colleagues. His sacrifice and dedication in carrying out his duties for the safety of road users will always be appreciated," he said.
He also wished Motor Vehicle Examiner Grade AB2 Nor Amirudin Rameli, who was seriously injured in the crash, a speedy recovery.
Loke said RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli had visited the families of both officers this morning to convey his condolences and offer support.
The Transport Ministry and RTD would continue to look into the welfare and needs of the deceased's family and the injured officer, including providing appropriate assistance, he added.
The crash occurred around 10.50pm when RTD personnel were inspecting a lorry parked on the emergency lane at KM256 of the southbound North-South Expressway near the Senawang exit.
A lorry driver approaching from behind veered out of control and crashed into the RTD sport utility vehicle (SUV) and the lorry being inspected.
