On October 23, Ethereum core developers announced a delay in the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet. This postponement allows for further investigation into how EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 interact with mainnet contracts. The implications of this delay are significant as it ensures the integrity of the network before the upgrade proceeds. For more details, see the full tweet from Lido Finance here.
The Story So Far
The decision to delay the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet comes after a thorough evaluation during the ACDE #248 call. The Ethereum team aims to ensure compatibility and stability by further analyzing the interaction of the proposed EIPs with existing contracts. This move reflects a commitment to maintaining the security of the network, especially as the upgrade was initially set for activation on October 26. Importantly, Lido’s protocol remains unaffected, and stETH or wstETH holders do not need to take any immediate action. Contributors are preparing to coordinate a rollback of the fork-specific changes to keep the testnet operational until a new date is established.
Ethereum is a leading blockchain platform known for its smart contract functionality. The developers operate under the Ethereum Foundation’s governance and focus on enhancing network performance and security. The postponement of the Glamsterdam upgrade shows a proactive approach to avoid potential issues that could arise from untested implementations.
What Traders Are Watching Next
Traders and stakeholders should monitor the developments surrounding the new timeline for the Glamsterdam upgrade. Key indicators will include any further announcements from the Ethereum core team and the community’s response. Given the current market’s mixed signals, any resolution could influence sentiment and trading volume around Ethereum in the near term.
