The Town of Cambridge has been recognised for its work supporting older residents, with its Memory Cafe program earning a place among three finalists for a State seniors award.
The town is a finalist in the WA age-friendly local government category at the 2026 WA Seniors Awards, alongside the cities of Canning and Gosnells.
The awards recognise local governments helping older West Australians age well in their communities and maintain a high quality of life.
Town of Cambridge mayor Gary Mack said the nomination recognised the impact of the town’s monthly Memory Cafe program, which supports people living with memory loss or dementia, as well as their carers and families.
“For people living with memory loss or dementia, and their carers and families, staying socially connected can make a real difference,” he said.
“Our monthly Memory Cafe offers a welcoming place to share experiences, build friendships and enjoy activities, with access to information and support.”
Mr Mack said the recognition belonged to the staff, volunteers, partners and participants who helped create a sense of belonging through the program.
“It reflects our commitment to helping older people remain connected and involved in community life while supporting those who care for them,” he said.
The finalists were announced as part of WA Seniors Week, which will run from November 8 to 15, with 55 community organisations and local governments across WA sharing in $85,000 in grants to host events celebrating older residents.
Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk said the grants would help strengthen community connections and support age-friendly outcomes.
“Age-friendly communities create safe and inclusive environments for all West Australians,” she said.
The WA Seniors Awards will be held on November 13.
