French authorities have launched a terror probe after officials said one person was killed and four others injured in a shooting in a Paris suburb early on Friday.
The individual is in police custody and France's National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office is investigating the deadly incident in Trappes, Yvelines, west of the capital, early on Friday, French prime minister Sébastien Lecornu said.
The mayor of Trappes, Ali Rabeh, confirmed the death in a statement posted to Instagram, translated into English, saying: "We mourn at this stage the death of a victim."
He added an investigation is currently underway to determine "the exact circumstances behind these facts and the shooter's motives."
Rabeh confirmed in his post the man opened fire from a vehicle, telling France's BFMTV broadcaster the person was "shooting randomly and wanted to cause carnage."
French interior minister, Laurent Nunez, said the motive behind the attack wasn't clear but said the alleged perpetrator appeared to be on a "murderous rampage."
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
