The Chris Iyovwaye Governorship Campaign Organisation of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Delta State has called on the state government to provide detailed information on the funding, beneficiary selection and distribution records of its food bank programme.
The organisation’s Director-General, Dr Alfred Mulade, made the call in a statement on Thursday, saying the public deserved accountability over resources committed to the initiative and how the assistance reached intended beneficiaries.
According to a report by Asaba Metro, the third edition of the programme was held in Asaba on October 14, 2026, with 2,500 women from the state’s 25 local government areas reportedly benefiting.
The report stated that each beneficiary received ₦50,000, bringing the total cash support to ₦125m, while the food items distributed were valued at more than ₦100m.
Mulade urged the programme’s organisers to disclose its funding sources, explain the criteria used to select beneficiaries and provide records showing the cash and food items distributed.
He said: “Families facing hunger need timely support, but such interventions must also be transparent and accountable.”
He added: “The public should also be able to understand where the resources came from, how beneficiaries were selected and what was delivered.”
The campaign organisation also called for clarification on how the food items were valued, urging the relevant authorities to make supporting documents available for public scrutiny.
Mulade said transparency would strengthen public confidence in social intervention programmes and help ensure that assistance reached vulnerable residents fairly.

He also questioned the programme’s long-term impact, asking: “What happens after the food is consumed and the cash is spent?”
According to him, emergency food assistance should be complemented by sustainable measures that improve livelihoods and reduce poverty.
Mulade added: “Deltans deserve assistance that reaches them fairly today and sustained investment that gives them greater economic security tomorrow.”
